Planning Application at 41-49 Queen Street, Belfast

The Planning Application has taken another step forward towards Planning Permission for the redevelopment of the building at 41-49 Queen Street, Belfast, currently partially occupied by The Athletic Stores

The Planning Application for the redevelopment of the Athletic Stores building was presented to Belfast City Council last Thursday evening (17 November) as an approval. The opinion of DoE was approved by the Town Planning Committee and the application is therefore capable of being approved.

The approval of this application in one of the most run down areas of the City Centre would be a milestone for the regeneration of the wider area which has seen a significant decline in fortunes in recent times.

It would demonstrate that buildings which are beyond economic repair and re-use can be demolished even when they are located in Conservation Areas and even if they make a material contribution to the character of such an area.

The importance of an approval for this scheme should not be underestimated and for further advice on similar situations please contact Michael Worthington.
